Hovedstaden Lusaka, der ligger i syd sådan cirka midt i Zambia (øst-vest), 430 km fra Petauke, har ca. 1,5 mio. indbyggere, men virker egentlig mindre.

Lusaka, the capital, is situated in the south approximately in the centre of Zambia (east-west), 430 km from Petauke. Lusaka has around 1.5 million inhabitants, but actually seems smaller.

En moske i et erklæret kristent land (fra 1996), hvor alle offentlige møder startes og sluttes med en bøn.
A mosque in a country officially declared a Christian nation in 1996. All public meetings begin and close with a prayer.

Lusaka Downtown - Skyskraberen i midten af billedet har meget billige erhvervs-lejemål - for elevatoren virker ikke.
The skyscraper in the centre of the picture offers very cheap office accommodation - for the lift does not work..

I centrum er der mange indisk ejede butikker med billige varer af lav kvalitet. Det er her, almindelige mennesker handler.
In Lusaka Downtown there are many Indian-owned shops with cheap low-quality goods. This is where ordinary people shop.

I Zambia er alle udendørs reklamer håndmalet med meget sirlige detaljer. Ikke noget med trykte reklamer.

In Zambia all out-door ads are hand-painted with the tiniest little details. No printed ads..

Manda Hill er et af de riges indkøbsparadiser med næsten alt, hvad hjertet begærer, til priser, de færreste kan betale (de fleste butikker er sydafrikansk ejet)
Manda Hill is one of the shopping paradises of the rich with almost all that the heart can desire - at prices which very few people can afford (most shops are owned by South Africans)

Dyreklinik for især hvides kæledyr. Zambianerne har normalt ikke kæledyr - og ude i bushen fodrer man fx ikke hunde, for det giver ingen mening, når folk selv sulter.
A vet's primarily for white people's pets. Zambians do not usually keep pets - and in the bush nobody feeds the dogs because that would not make sense when people themselves starve.

Mzungu-markedet på den sidste lørdag i hver måned. Markedet for "hvide". Her fås alle tænkelige afrikanske souvenirs.
The Mzungu Market on the last Saturday of every month. The market for whites. Here all thinkable sorts of African souvenirs are available.

Fodbold er Zambias nationalsport. Disse billeder er taget ved en landskamp. I 1993 omkom hele landsholdet ved en flyulykke, og det har taget mange år at komme sig over tabet. En af fødselshjælperne var landstræneren Roald Poulsen. Han er den mest berømte (eneste berømte?) dansker i Zambia.

Soccer is the national sport of Zambia. These pictures are from a national match. In 1993 the whole national team was killed in a plane crash, which caused a disastrous setback. The Danish coach Roald Poulsen helped build a new team. He is the most (only?) famous Dane in Zambia.
